ANARCISM
1. The theory or doctrine that all forms of government are oppressive and undesirable and should be abolished.
2. Rejection of all forms of coercive control and authority.

ARISTOCRACY
1. A hereditary ruling class; nobility.
2. Government by a ruling class.
3. A group or class considered superior to others.

AUTOCRACY
1. Government by a single person having unlimited power; despotism.

CHARLATAN
1. A person who makes elaborate, fraudulent, and often voluble claims to skill or knowledge.
2. A quack or fraud.

COLLECTIVISM
1. The principles or system of ownership and control of the means of production and distribution by the people collectively.
2. (also see Socialism)

COMMUNISM
1. A theoretical economic system characterized by the collective ownership of property and by the organization of labor for the common advantage of all members.
2. A system of government in which the state plans and controls the economy and a single, often authoritarian party holds power, claiming to make progress toward a higher social order in which all goods are equally shared by the people.
3. The Marxist-Leninist version of Communist doctrine that advocates the overthrow of capitalism by the revolution of the proletariat.

DECRIMINALIZE
1. To reduce or abolish criminal penalties.

DEMAGOGUE
1. A leader who obtains power by means of impassioned appeals to the emotions and prejudices of the populace.

DEMOCRACY
1. Government by the people in which political power is exercised either directly or through elected representatives.
2. Rule by the majority without the consent of the governed (50% +1 person consitutes a majority).
3. In a direct-democracy public policy is decided by direct popular vote. In a representative-democracy public policy is decided by representatives which are elected by popular vote. In both cases political power is exercised by the government on behalf of the people.

DESPOTISM
1. Rule by or as if by a despot; absolute power or authority.
2. A government or political system in which the ruler exercises absolute power.

DICTATOR
1. An absolute ruler.
2. A tyrant, a despot.

ENVY
1. A feeling of discontent and resentment aroused by and in conjunction with desire for the possessions or qualities of another.

FRAUD
1. A deception deliberately practiced in order to secure unfair or unlawful gain.
2. Exploitation of a person's good will through deceptive means.

GOVERNMENT
1. Agent which exercises political power on behalf of the people.
2. Typically has a monopoly on the offensive use of force.
3. Government does not ask, suggest, or recommend. It tells, threatens, and forces.

JURY
1. A number of freeholders, selected in the manner prescribed by law, empanneled and sworn to inquire into and try any matter of fact, and to declare the truth on the evidence given them in the case. Grand juries consist usually of twenty four freeholders at least, and are summoned to try matters alledged in indictments. Petty juries, consisting usually of twelve men, attend courts to try matters of fact in civil causes, and to decide both the law and the fact in criminal prosecutions. KLEPTOCRACY
1. A government characterized by rampant greed and corruption.

LAISSEZ FAIRE
1. An economic doctrine that opposes governmental regulation of or interference in commerce beyond the minimum necessary for a free-enterprise system to operate according to its own economic laws.
2. Noninterference in the affairs of others.

LEGAL
1. Activity sanctioned by government.
2. Authorized by or based on law.
3. Established by law; statutory.
4. In conformity with or permitted by law.
5. Recognized or enforced by law rather than by equity.

LEGALIZE
1. To make legal or lawful; authorize or sanction by law.
2. To make subject to regulation.

MOBOCRACY
1. Political control by a mob.
2. The mass of common people as the source of political control.
3. A condition in which public affairs are conducted without respect to law, precedents, or vested rights.

MONARCHY
1. A government in which one ruler reigns over a state or territory, usually for life and by hereditary right, especially.

OLIGARCHY
1. Government by a few, especially by a small faction of persons or families.
2. Rule by the minority without the consent of the governed (50% -1 person constitutes a minority).

OUTLAWRY
1. The act of outlawing; the putting a man out of the protection of law, or the process by which a man (as an absconding criminal) is deprived of that protection.

PHILANTHROPY
1. The effort or inclination to increase the well-being of humankind.
2. Love of humankind in general. 1. Something, such as an activity or institution, intended to promote human welfare.

PLUNDER
1. To rob of goods by force; pillage.
2. To seize wrongfully or by force; steal. 3. Property stolen by fraud or force; booty.

PLUTOCRACY
1. Government by a few, especially by a small faction of persons or families.
2. A government or state in which the wealthy rule.

REPUBLIC
1. A political order in which the supreme power lies in a body of citizens who elect officers and representatives responsible to them.
2. A Constitutional Republic is characterized by limitations placed on government to protect individual freedom. These limitations are outlined in a Constitution. A Constitution specifically lists the responsibilities of elected office holders.

SHILL
1. One who poses as a satisfied customer or an enthusiastic gambler to dupe bystanders into participating in a swindle.

SOCIALISM
1. A social system in which the means of production and distribution are owned collectively and political power is exercised by the whole community (political power is exercised by the government on behalf of the people).
2. The building of the material base for communism under the dictatorship of the proletariat in Marxist-Leninist theory. 3. (also see Collectivism)

THEOCRACY
1. A government ruled by or subject to religious authority.

TRAITOR
1. One who betrays one's country, a cause, or a trust.
2. One who commits treason.

TYRANNY
1. A government in which rulers are vested with absolute power.
2. The office, authority, or jurisdiction of an absolute ruler. 3. Absolute power, especially when exercised unjustly or cruelly.

VOIR DIRE
1. A preliminary examination of prospective jurors or witnesses under oath to determine their competence or suitability.
